Bentley's Ying Yang
Painted Desert sheep |
When a half starved Barbado sheep wandered up to the ranch 8 years ago, I never imagined I'd trade in all of my show goats to start raising trophy rams. What started out as an accident has turned into a serious breeding program.
There are around 70-80 ewes total here, including Black Hawaiian sheep, Texas Dall, Painted Desert, and Corsican. A strong Mouflon influence can be seen in the horn sets of most of the rams. My herd sires for 2008 include Bentley's Ying Yang (Painted Desert), Gin Road Cholo (Painted Desert/MouflonX), Gin Road El Fuego (Red Dall), Gin Road Blaze (Corsican), Gin Road Razor and Damnation (Black Hawaiian), and Gin Road Ninety and Wapiti (Texas Dall). Visit the Gallery page to see these guys along with other photos taken around the place.
My foundation herd of Painted Desert sheep came from Bentley Farms in Decatur, TX, while the majority of the other sheep came from south and west Texas. My newest additions are a group of Red Dalls.... basically Texas Dalls that came out red isntead of white. I decided to separate them and start breeding reds in addition to the other types I've already got.

| Yearling Rams in Pasture |
All my ewes birth and raise their lambs unassisted in the fields. I often don't see them for days, until they decide to bring in a set of 3 day old twins to show off. These little sheep sure are good mothers. I keep out protien blocks, and sometimes suppliment with a corn/soybean mix in the winter for ewes raising lambs, but otherwise they fend for themselves.
New photos up in the galleries! :)
